Privacy Policy — Scanly
Last updated: 25 June 2026
Scanly is built to be private by design. Your scanned documents are processed and stored only on your device. We do not upload your documents to any server, we do not have accounts, and we cannot see, access, or collect the contents of anything you scan.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the Scanly mobile application ("Scanly", "the app", "we", "us") handles, and how. It applies to the Scanly app for Android. By using Scanly, you agree to this policy.
1. Who we are
Scanly is developed and operated by KiroLabs. For any questions about this policy or your privacy, contact us at labskiro@gmail.com.
2. The short version
- Your documents, scans, and recognised text stay on your device.
- We do not collect, upload, sell, or share your document content.
- No account or sign-up is required to use Scanly.
- The app shows ads, and our advertising partner may collect limited technical data to serve them.
- You stay in control: you can delete your documents, and any backups, at any time.
3. Information processed on your device
The core features of Scanly run entirely on your device and do not send your content to us or anyone else:
- Scanned documents and images — captured with your camera or imported from your gallery.
- Edits, filters, signatures, and annotations you apply.
- Recognised text (OCR) — text extraction runs on-device; the recognised text is stored locally.
- Your folders, names, tags, and app settings.
This information is stored in the app's private storage on your device. It remains there until you delete it or uninstall the app. We have no access to it.
4. Information collected automatically (ads & diagnostics)
Scanly is free and supported by advertising. To display ads, we use a third-party advertising provider. When ads are served, the advertising provider may collect and process limited technical information, which may include:
- Device identifiers (such as an advertising ID), device type, and operating system version.
- IP address and approximate, coarse location derived from it.
- Ad interaction and general app-usage data used to serve and measure ads.
This advertising data is handled by the advertising provider under its own privacy policy. The advertising provider does not receive your documents, scans, or recognised text — it has no access to your files.
5. Permissions we request
- Camera — To capture document scans. Used only when you scan; images stay on your device.
- Photos / media — To let you import an existing image as a page, if you choose to.
- Storage / files — To save your exported PDFs, images, and backup files to a location you select.
- Internet — Used only to display ads. Your documents are never sent over the internet by Scanly.
6. Advertising personalisation and consent
Depending on your region and choices, ads may be personalised or non-personalised. Where required by law (including the EEA, UK, and Switzerland), we ask for your consent before personalised ads are shown, and you can change your choice in the app or your device settings. You can also limit ad tracking using your device's advertising-ID controls.
7. How long data is kept
Your documents and app data are kept on your device until you delete them or uninstall Scanly. Deleting a document or folder removes its files from your device. Backup files you create are under your sole control, wherever you choose to store them. Advertising data is retained by the advertising provider according to its own policy.
8. Backups
Scanly can create an encrypted backup file that you save to a location you choose. The backup is protected with a secret you provide; we never receive or store that secret, and we never receive the backup. If you lose the secret, the backup cannot be recovered.
9. Children's privacy
Scanly is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will address it.
10. Your rights
Because your document content stays on your device, you control it directly — you can view, edit, export, and delete it at any time within the app. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to data portability, in relation to any data processed about you. For advertising data, you can exercise applicable rights with the advertising provider and via your device's ad settings. To make a request to us, email labskiro@gmail.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
11. International users
Scanly is available in multiple countries. Your document content is processed locally on your device regardless of where you are. Any advertising data may be processed by the advertising provider in the countries where it operates, under its own safeguards.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide notice in the app or on this page. Continued use of Scanly after an update means you accept the revised policy.
