Privacy Policy

Last updated: 23-06-2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Tide app ("Tide," "the app," "we," "us") handles information when you use it. Tide is a period and cycle tracking app built around a simple principle: your personal health data belongs to you and stays on your device.

Please read this policy carefully. By using Tide, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Our privacy-first approach in plain language

Tide is designed to be local-first. This means:

  • The personal information you log — your periods, symptoms, cycle data, notes, and related health information — is stored on your device, not on our servers.
  • We do not sell your personal data.
  • We do not require an account, your name, or your email address to use the core features of the app.
  • Your intimate health data is not used for advertising and is not shared with advertisers or data brokers.

The sections below explain this in more detail, including the limited technical data that may be processed to keep the app working.

2. Information stored on your device

When you use Tide, you may enter information such as:

  • Period start and end dates, and flow details
  • Cycle-related symptoms (for example: cramps, mood, energy, sleep, skin)
  • Fertility-related information you choose to log (for example: cervical mucus, basal body temperature, test results)
  • Pregnancy-related information, where you use those features
  • Perimenopause-related symptoms, where you use those features
  • Personal notes
  • App settings and preferences

This information is stored locally on your device. It is used by the app, on your device, to provide predictions, insights, calendar views, reminders, and educational content tailored to where you are in your cycle.

We do not have access to this information, and it is not transmitted to us as part of normal use of the app's core tracking features.

3. Tide works entirely offline

Tide does not require an internet connection to function. Everything the app does — tracking, predictions, your calendar, insights, educational content, and reminders — runs locally on your device.

This means:

  • We do not collect your logged health data.
  • We do not run analytics that send your activity to us or to third parties.
  • We do not transmit the contents of your personal log off your device.
  • The app's educational content (article text) is included within the app and can be read offline.
  • Reminders are scheduled locally on your device and do not require any external service.

Because Tide operates entirely on your device, your personal health information stays with you.

4. Notifications and reminders

If you enable reminders (for example, a heads-up before your predicted period), they are scheduled and delivered locally by your device's own operating system. Setting a reminder does not send your data to us or to any third party. You can turn reminders on or off at any time in your device or app settings.

5. What we do not do

To be explicit, Tide does not:

  • Sell your personal data to anyone.
  • Collect or transmit your logged health data off your device.
  • Share your health data with advertisers or data brokers.
  • Use your health data to target advertising.
  • Require your real name, email, or an account to use the app.
  • Run analytics or tracking that report your activity to us or third parties.

6. How your information is used

All processing of your information happens on your device, and is used only to:

  • Provide the app's core features (tracking, predictions, calendar, insights, educational content, reminders).
  • Store your preferences and settings so the app works the way you set it.

Your information is not used for any other purpose, and is not sent to us.

7. Data retention and deletion

Your logged data remains on your device until you delete it — either by deleting individual entries, clearing the app's data in your device settings, or uninstalling the app.

Uninstalling the app removes its locally stored data from your device.

Because your data is stored only on your device, deleting it from your device removes it completely. We hold no copy of it.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data, including the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing, and the right to data portability. For users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, these rights arise under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and related laws.

Because Tide stores your data locally on your device, you can exercise these rights directly within the app — you can view, edit, export (where available), and delete your data at any time, without needing to contact anyone.

If you have questions about this policy, you can contact us using the details in Section 13. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

9. Legal basis for processing (EEA/UK users)

Tide processes your information locally on your device to provide the features you have asked it to perform. To the extent any data protection law applies to this on-device processing, our basis is performance of the service you have requested and our legitimate interest in providing a functioning app — neither of which overrides your rights, since your data never leaves your device and remains under your control.

We do not collect, transmit, or process your personal data on our own servers in the course of normal use of the app.

10. Children's privacy

Tide is intended for people who menstruate or are navigating reproductive health, and may be used by younger people for whom this is relevant. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children in a manner that requires verifiable parental consent under applicable law, beyond the local, on-device tracking the user themselves enters.

The app does not require an account or personal identifying information to use its core features. If you are below the age of digital consent in your country, please use the app with the involvement of a parent or guardian where required by local law.

11. Security

We design the app to keep your data on your device and out of our reach. Because your data is stored on your device, its security also depends on the security of your device — we recommend using a device passcode or biometric lock and keeping your operating system up to date.

No method of electronic storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. International users and changes

International use. The app may be used in many countries. Because it processes data only on your device, your information is not transferred across borders by us.

Changes to this policy. We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above, and where required by law, we will provide additional notice. Your continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

13. Contact
